Directions:
Get everyone to help with the design of your course. Start the brainstorming by reading and looking at your favorite Dr. Seuss titles. Think about other miniature golf courses your family has visited to generate ideas. While no idea is too wacky or wild, you might want to start small for your first nine holes (or three or five or however many holes you decide can fit in your home or yard). Each hole can have its own theme or your entire course can be one theme.
Try these ideas for inspiration:
Seussville course
- Hop on Pop hole: hit the ball over bubble wrap to reach the hole.
- Green Eggs and Ham hole: send the ball through a dark tunnel (decorated box) to reach the hole.
- One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish hole: decorated with all kinds of fish
The Cat in the Hat–themed course
- BUMP hole: go over a big bump to reach the hole.
- Fun to have fun hole: decorated with books, a ball, a cup, a toy ship
- Fun-in-a-box hole: hit the ball through a big red box to reach the hole.
- Thing One and Thing Two hole: decorated with Thing One and Thing Two pointing the way to the hole
- Clean up hole: get around all the things that need to be cleaned up (fan, gown, dish) to reach the hole.
The Lorax–themed course
- The Once-ler’s hole: hit the ball around the gruvvulous glove into the hole.
- Truffula Tree forest hole: decorated with Truffula Trees.
- The Brown Bar-ba-loots hole: decorated with stuffed bears.
- The Humming-Fish hole: avoid the rippulous pond (a dish of water) to reach the hole.
- The Lorax’s tree stump hole: hit the ball up the ramp to reach the hole in the tree stump.
- The Once-ler’s factory hole: hit the ball through the factory to reach the hole.
- The Gluppity-Glupp hole: hit the ball up a ramp to get over the Gluppity-Glupp and reach the hole.
- Leaving the factory hole: create obstacles out of toy cars.
- The UNLESS rocks hole: hit the ball up the ramp to reach the hole in the UNLESS rocks.
It’s fun to team up to create the different holes, experiment with different materials to make them, and then play a few rounds! If you want to keep score, create a scorecard where players can track the number of putts it takes to get the ball in the hole. Or for younger kids, you could put a check mark for each hole finished. Enjoy this course and then see what you think up next!
