The Cat in the Hat likes to relax by eating cake in the bathtub, and you and your kids can take a Seuss Spa Day too—minus the cake in the tub! Unwind with Dr. Seuss titles and let kids learn why taking care of themselves is a good thing to do.
- For all the time people spend on them, feet rarely get the attention they deserve. Steep a gallon of warm water with six peppermint tea bags and add some liquid soap to make a foamy footbath. While everyone relaxes with their feet in bowls or tubs, read The Foot Book aloud and then talk about keeping feet clean and toenails trimmed. When everyone’s feet are finished soaking, dry them thoroughly and moisturize with lotion.
- Cooling slices of cucumber may be just what the Cat in the Hat needs after he reads with his eyes shut—it makes his eyebrows get red hot! Gather the kids around and read aloud I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! After reading, have kids lie down for a cold cucumber eye treatment and listen to the story again. See if they can remember the illustrations as they listen with their eyes shut, covered by slices of cucumber.
- Enhance snack time at the Seuss Spa! Try a Pink Ink Yink Drink—with a reading of The Tooth Book. When you’re done reading and drinking, head to the bathroom mirror to get a good look at everyone’s choppers. Go over proper tooth brushing and let everyone brush for two minutes. Set a timer so kids know how long to brush. Demonstrate flossing and let kids practice first by running a piece of yarn or string through your fingers. Then let them floss their teeth using dental floss. Take a photo of everyone’s smiles and hang it in the bathroom as a memento of your spa day and a reminder to brush properly every day!
